School-Based Therapy is offered at selected Gaston County Schools and promotes emotional health for students within their school setting. Therapists work directly with caretakers and school staff to identify students who may benefit from therapeutic services. Services provided include individual, group, and family therapy, crisis intervention, teacher/staff consultation, and appropriate referrals to other mental health services, if needed. School-based therapists provide therapeutic counseling in dealing with emotional and behavioral problems including, but not limited to:
- Anger management
- Peer pressure
- Bullying behaviors
- Issues of divorce
- Abuse or neglect
- Issues of adjustment
- Grief and loss
- Trauma
- Truancy, absenteeism, and tardiness
- Depression and anxiety
- Attention Deficit Disorder
- Mood Disorders
- Oppositional Defiance Disorder
- Conduct Disorder
