Outpatient and School-Based Therapy Services

Support, Inc. offers an array of outpatient therapeutic services to promote emotional health, including individual, group and family therapy as well as crisis intervention. Our therapists provide individual youth therapeutic counseling in dealing with emotional and behavioral problems like anger management, grief and loss, mood disorders and much more.

In addition to traditional individual youth therapy, we offer school-based therapy at selected area schools to promote emotional health for students within a school setting.  Therapists work directly with caretakers and school staff to identify students who may benefit from therapeutic services. Traditional emotional and behavioral therapy counseling, teacher/staff consultation, crisis intervention and appropriate referrals to other mental health services are provided as needed.

When to Consider Child/Adolescent Therapy

At Support, Inc., we understand that children are not just small adults—they have unique needs that require specialized attention. Our youth therapy is specifically designed for children who have undergone trauma, faced significant life changes, or are dealing with emotional, mental, or behavioral health challenges. Our therapists are expertly trained to work with children and adolescents, using approaches tailored to help young people effectively. Dedicated exclusively to supporting the youth, we provide the specialized care and understanding they need to thrive.

Does Your Child Need Counseling?

While all children and (especially) adolescents have bad days, when a young person exhibits these emotions or behaviors on a regular basis, the time to seek help is now:

  • Social withdrawal or isolation
  • Sadness or depression
  • Radical mood swings
  • Angry outbursts
  • Waning interest in activities they once enjoyed
  • Attention deficits
  • Major changes in appetite
  • Too little or too much sleep
  • Complaints of not feeling well that a doctor cannot confirm

Plus, your child or teen should absolutely begin therapy if you know or suspect that your child has recently experienced:

  • Alcohol or drug abuse
  • Sexual or other physical abuse
  • Divorce, separation and custody issues
  • The death of a family member, close friend or pet

What to Tell Your Child About Therapy

Choose a quiet moment when your child seems open to conversation to discuss counseling. It’s important to convey to older children and teens that therapy is a supportive measure, not a punishment. For younger children who may not grasp this concept, simply assure them that they will be safe with the therapist. To help enhance their sense of security, encourage them to bring a favorite blanket or toy to their sessions.

Do You Think You Need Family Therapy?

Family counseling involves both the parents and children, and it may include grandparents, aunts and uncles and/or caregivers if they play a significant role in the family. Family therapy addresses issues that arise from:

  • Major changes in the family’s structure
  • The illness or death of a family member
  • Marital separation or divorce
  • Caring for a family member with special needs
  • A family member with mental health or substance abuse issues
  • A child with behavior problem at home or in school
  • A high level of conflict between the parents and children

Your family may need professional help if any of the following are observed:

  • Confusion over who is in charge of the family
  • Continual family drama, including violence or the threat of violence
  • Emotionally charged family events
  • Chronic stress and anxiety on one or more family members

What Happens During Family Therapy

Family therapy is designed to strengthen the bonds between family members by fostering better communication and collaboration. It aims to build emotional awareness and empathy, prevent conflicts, and equip members with strategies to manage uncontrollable life challenges effectively.

Once a professional therapist has identified the root causes of the family’s issues, a tailored treatment plan is developed. This plan outlines specific strategies to help the family achieve their goals. All family members are encouraged to commit to the necessary changes and engage actively in learning improved communication techniques to enhance their interactions and overall family dynamics.
