Medication Management

Mental Health Medication Management

At Support, Inc., we recognize the vital role that medication can play in achieving the goals set forth in our client’s treatment plans. Our psychiatric medication management department is integral to our approach to treating children and adolescents. The process begins with determining the appropriate medications and dosages. Led by our double board-certified General and Child and Adolescent psychiatrist, our team conducts detailed psychiatric evaluations and ongoing follow-up appointments. This ensures we meticulously monitor and adjust treatment, allowing us to effectively support each patient’s progress throughout their therapy.

Some people need medication for only a short time while others have chronic issues that require them to take mental health medication over a long period of time. Every patient, regardless of how long they take medication, must be carefully monitored to ensure that their medication is safe and is effectively treating their condition. And, unlike most medications for a physical ailment, treatment of mental health issues requires medical management on an ongoing basis. Mental health medication management may include changing the dosage, replacing the original medication with a different one, and monitoring the patient for side effects and signs of addiction.

About Medication for Mental Health Issues

Medications are typically prescribed when talk therapy alone is insufficient in treating mental or emotional health disorders, and are often prescribed in tandem with talk therapy. Depending on individual needs, medication might be the primary treatment, supported by talk therapy, or vice versa. A trained provider evaluates each case to determine the most effective treatment plan.

Psychiatric medication has advantages and disadvantages. Medication can help the patient recover, ease symptoms triggered by therapy, allow patients the amount of relief needed to navigate their daily lives, and address their biological triggers. However, patients need to understand that mental health medications come with potential side effects, can be dangerous without proper supervision, and require continuous monitoring to ensure that the medication is safe and effectively treating the patient’s condition.

Medication is prescribed for some patients with depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), eating disorders and many conditions.

If you think a child or adolescent in your care will benefit from mental health medication, please get in touch today. Our professionals are here to evaluate his or her condition and may prescribe medication during the initial assessment.
